North Yorkshire-based Dallas Wilding Drew (DWD) is marking its fifth anniversary with continued expansion plans and a strategic hire aimed at strengthening its presence in the rural sector.
DWD has appointed Dominic Snook as a Farm and Agricultural Account Executive, a newly created role designed to support growth across the rural sector. Dominic, who lives in Harrogate, joins from Farm & General Insurance Consultants and brings more than 12 years of sector-specific expertise, underpinned by his upbringing on a working farm.
Established in 2021, as part of the 100+ year old family & employee owned TL Dallas Group, DWD has offices in Gargrave, near Skipton and provides insurance broking and risk management services to clients across the UK. Led by directors Simon Drew and Mark Wilding, who together have more than 50 years’ industry experience, DWD has grown from a two-person operation to a broking team of seven, with a £3m turnover.
The latest appointment follows the arrival of experienced Commercial Broker, Mike Spencer, at the end of last year.
DWD’s expansion comes amid shifting dynamics in the regional insurance broking market. The closure of competitor offices in Settle and Skipton, alongside the centralisation of services to call centres outside the region, has created opportunities for firms offering a more localised, relationship-led approach.
Simon said: “We had already seen an increase in enquiries from clients seeking a more responsive and personal service. Many businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to find an insurance broker who really understands their needs. In addition to our work in the rural and farming communities, we are seeing demand increasing across numerous sectors, including construction, manufacturing, hospitality and family-owned enterprises, as well as clients with property portfolios.
“The fact that all our claims handling is managed in-house, rather than through a call centre, is also a key differentiator in retaining client confidence and delivering consistent outcomes. Most of our business comes from personal recommendations and referrals, which is a reflection on our experienced and dedicated team, and we really take the time to get to know our clients and help solve any issues they might have.”
Jo Wellock, from The Angel at Hetton, said: “Having been with the same insurance provider for over 20 years it was always going to take a lot to change provider. But having met with DWD to discuss our insurance requirements in person, the service was first class and it’s saved us money, which is much appreciated in these times. I would have no hesitation in recommending DWD.”
Simon added: “Hiring Mike and Dominic means we can target further growth in rural and agricultural markets, and position ourselves to attract even more commercial businesses looking for local in-person expertise, continuity of service and long-term advisory relationships.”
