TL Dallas has appointed Cara Mackenzie as its new Regional Placement Manager for Scotland, a role that will see her overseeing the company’s insurer relationships across the region.

In her new position, Cara will be responsible for managing and strengthening relationships with TL Dallas’ extensive network of insurance companies, supporting key clients and partners, and driving the company’s placement strategy throughout Scotland. She will also play an important role in supporting the local broking teams on complex and difficult to place renewals, to ensure clients are properly protected against the ever-emerging risks they face.

Cara said: “TL Dallas offers a unique combination of scale yet it’s still an independent, family-run broker with a strong presence across Scotland and beyond. Joining gives me the opportunity to work closely with the teams across Scotland, whilst helping drive growth for the business.”

Cara brings more than a decade of experience in insurance broking and relationship management. Prior to joining TL Dallas, she spent almost four years at Accelerant, a risk exchange platform that connects Managing General Agents (MGAs) with risk capital partners, where she managed relationships with multiple MGAs and oversaw complex policy binders. Her earlier career included roles at Marsh Commercial and Clark Thomson in Inverness, giving her comprehensive insight into both client-facing broking and placement management.

Chief Executive Officer, Tim Mortimer, said: “Cara’s extensive experience makes her an excellent fit for this role. Her knowledge of the Scottish insurance market, combined with her ability to support complex accounts and drive placement strategy, to ensure clients are matched with insurers that fit their individual requirements, will be invaluable as we continue to expand and strengthen our regional presence.”

Cara will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure clients’ insurance needs are met efficiently whilst identifying new business opportunities. Her remit spans all offices in Scotland, including Caledonia Dallas in Inverness and Elgin, Nord Dallas in Orkney, as well as the TL Dallas offices in Shetland, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The post TL Dallas appoints Scottish regional placement manager first appeared on TL Dallas.

TL Dallas is expanding its footprint in North Yorkshire with a new presence in Harrogate, as the Yorkshire-headquartered firm continues to invest in regional growth.

The long-established insurance broking, risk management and financial services group will operate from premises at 36 Victoria Avenue, placing its team in the centre of Harrogate’s professional and commercial district and strengthening its service offering to both private and business clients across the town and surrounding areas.

The move forms part of the firm’s wider strategy to build on sustained organic growth, whilst maintaining its position as one of the UK’s largest independent insurance brokers.

Caroline Pullich, group head of private clients at TL Dallas, will lead the firm’s high-net-worth client offering from the new Harrogate base, working alongside corporate account executive, James Bright, who will focus on supporting commercial clients across the region.

Caroline said: “Our expansion reflects both growing demand from existing clients and the company’s commitment to strengthening its presence in North Yorkshire. Harrogate has a vibrant professional and business community, and we have been working with clients here for decades. Establishing a dedicated presence at 36 Victoria Avenue allows us to build on those relationships, whilst also meeting new clients locally.

“We see this as an important step in our continued investment for growth. TL Dallas has always focused on providing clear, independent advice and personal service, and having a base in Harrogate means we can be even closer to the people and businesses we support.”

James added: “The town’s diverse economy made it a natural location for our next stage of development. Harrogate is home to a broad range of successful businesses, from professional services to healthcare and hospitality. Having a base in the town gives us an excellent platform to support both established organisations and growing companies with their insurance and risk management needs.”

TL Dallas already works with a number of firms in the area, including healthcare provider Vida Healthcare and Harrogate-based Haddletons Solicitors. To mark the move, the firm has become a corporate patron of the Harrogate International Festival, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

James Rycroft, Managing Director of Vida Healthcare, said: “TL Dallas has provided us with consistent, transparent and clear insurance advice over many years. A trusting partnership was established from day one and combines value for money alongside the cover we need, which in turn gives us peace of mind.”

Over the past five years, TL Dallas has expanded significantly acquiring a 40-strong team in Inverness, Elgin, and Orkney, which is now known as Nord Dallas and Caledonia Dallas respectively; launching specialist offices in Lincolnshire under the Dallas Scott Davey brand and North Yorkshire under the Dallas Wilding Drew brand; as well as opening a commercial and agricultural office in Cockermouth, Cumbria.

The post TL Dallas opens Harrogate base to support expansion plans first appeared on TL Dallas.

TL Dallas has appointed Tim Mortimer as its new Chief Executive, as the fourth-generation family firm positions itself for the next phase of managed growth.

Tim takes up the role at the Yorkshire-headquartered group as Group Managing Director, and fourth generation family member, Polly Staveley, moves into an Executive Chair position, allowing her to focus on strategy, key clients, ambassadorial work and selective acquisitions.

Tim joined TL Dallas six years ago as Commercial Managing Director, with a clear succession plan in mind and has since played a central role in developing the Group’s commercial insurance operations, delivering significant year on year organic growth. He has over 35 years’ experience in the insurance sector, having previously held senior regional roles at Smart & Cook, Bluefin and Marsh Commercial.

During his time at TL Dallas, Tim has been instrumental in strengthening the group’s footprint in Scotland, most notably through the acquisition of a 40-strong team based in Inverness, Elgin and Orkney, now operating as Nord Dallas and Caledonia Dallas.

He has also supported further growth through the launch of new regional offices and specialist propositions in Lincolnshire, with the launch of Dallas Scott Davey, a specialist agricultural and business insurance firm; and the establishment of Dallas Wilding Drew in North Yorkshire, serving businesses across a broad range of sectors; as well as expanding into Cumbria, opening a new office in Cockermouth specialising in commercial and agricultural insurance.

Polly Staveley said: “Tim has really delivered for our business, and this is a natural and positive evolution of our leadership structure. Tim was appointed with a view to progressing into this role, and he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to TL Dallas, our people and our values.”

The changes will support the firm’s long-term vision of remaining a fully independent, full-service insurance broking and financial services group, with no external investment and continued majority ownership by the family and its employees.

Polly added: “In my new role, I’ll focus on the strategic and ambassadorial aspects of the business, representing TL Dallas across family business, chamber of commerce and international networks, supporting long-standing generational clients and identifying like-minded opportunities that align with our vision and key strengths.

“Continued, well-managed, growth is essential to remain competitive in a consolidating broking market, and to secure the best outcomes for clients and create progression opportunities for our team.”

Tim said: “I’m proud and excited to take on this role at a business with more than a century of history. TL Dallas is a rare example of a large, truly independent insurance broker that combines scale with a very personal approach to client service. Our independence, our people and our values are central to what makes us successful, and my focus as CEO will be on building on that strong foundation.

“We will continue to grow in a measured way, invest in our teams and ensure we remain competitive for our clients, whilst staying true to the culture that sets TL Dallas apart.”

The post New Chief Executive at TL Dallas first appeared on TL Dallas.

Insurance broker Caledonia Dallas has put its best foot forward for Highland Hospice, backing one of the region’s most high-profile charity events whilst rallying its team and neighbouring businesses to support the cause.

The Inverness-based firm, part of the TL Dallas Group, supported Catwalk for a Cause, the flagship fundraising fashion event in aid of Highland Hospice, which was held at the Drumossie Hotel over two nights in February. Caledonia Dallas attended the corporate night and sponsored the event alongside several other successful Highland businesses.

In addition to corporate sponsorship, the firm also sponsored one of the models taking part, Liz Wilson, who shared her personal story on the catwalk during the event.

The fundraising effort was spearheaded by Caroline MacPherson, Regional Commercial Broker at Caledonia Dallas, who launched her own campaign, ‘Caroline’s Countdown to Catwalk’. The challenge combined a gruelling running challenge with office-based fundraising and raised close to £1,000 for Highland Hospice.

Caroline completed a demanding series of runs in the week leading up to the event, starting with 5km on day one and adding 2.5km each day before reaching 17.5km on Sunday, and then running daily until the final night of the event.

The wider Caledonia Dallas team rallied behind the effort, contributing prizes for a raffle and supporting a bake sale. Support also came from neighbouring businesses based at Fairways Business Park in Inverness, highlighting the strong sense of collaboration within the local business community.

Paul Chiffers, Head of Office at Caledonia Dallas in Inverness, said the event reflected the firm’s commitment to supporting causes that matter locally. “Highland Hospice touches so many families across the region. We were proud to support Catwalk for a Cause and to see Caroline go the extra mile, quite literally, to raise funds and awareness.”

Highland Hospice provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care across the Highlands, with Catwalk for a Cause remaining one of its most important annual fundraising events.

Many firms operating in the health and care sector prefer to use an independent insurance broker because they need access to the full breadth of the care insurance market, rather than a limited selection of schemes or products.

As operational pressures, regulatory scrutiny and financial constraints intensify across the sector, care providers increasingly view independent insurance broking expertise as an essential component of their risk management strategy, rather than a discretionary service.

Rico Young, from the health and care division of independent insurance broking and risk management specialist TL Dallas, said: “Feedback from the hundreds of health and care operators we work with tells us that independence genuinely matters. Providers want brokers who understand the nuances of their operations, who have access to every insurer in the market, and who can negotiate tailored cover rather than offering a pre-set scheme. The sector is too complex, too tightly regulated, and too exposed to emerging risks for a one-size-fits-all approach.”

Founded in 1919, TL Dallas is one of the UK’s longest-established independent insurance broking and risk management companies and employs more than 220 people across 14 offices throughout the UK, between the Shetland Islands and London.

Within this national footprint, TL Dallas has developed a specialist focus on the health and care sector. Its care division supports a wide range of organisations, including nursing and residential homes, domiciliary care agencies, supported living services and complex specialist providers.

Rico added: “Independence translates directly into choice, value and accurate risk placement. Typically, many brokers can only offer a single scheme or a narrow panel of insurers. By contrast, we have access to all major care insurance markets. This allows our team of care specialists to perform a full market review for each client, assess the nuances of their operations and negotiate policies that align precisely with their exposure profile.”

This approach has become more important over the past decade as the risk environment for care providers has expanded beyond traditional areas such as property, liability and regulatory compliance. Rico added: “In addition to these core risks, modern care organisations must contend with complex employment issues, increased governance expectations and the growing threat of cybercrime. That’s why we place significant emphasis on covers that address the realities of modern care, and the two areas that really stand out are Management Liability Protection (MLP) and cyber insurance.”

MLP, which protects directors and senior managers against claims relating to regulation, governance or employment disputes, is becoming increasingly relevant given the heightened scrutiny of the sector. Rico said: “Allegations relating to staffing, safeguarding or compliance can have personal and financial repercussions for leadership teams. Ensuring that senior decision-makers are protected is now viewed as a critical risk management measure, not a discretionary add-on.”

Cyber insurance has also moved up the agenda. Rico added: “Care providers hold sensitive personal and medical information, making them prime targets for ransomware attacks and data breaches. Beyond the immediate technical response, cyber incidents have the potential to disrupt service continuity and damage provider reputation. Comprehensive cyber cover provides not only financial protection but also specialist support in the event of an attack, which is an increasingly vital safety net.”

Despite this expanded risk landscape, TL Dallas stresses that the core principles of effective care insurance remain unchanged. Rico said: “Each organisation requires tailored cover, competitive pricing and clear explanations. The annual review process is as important as the initial placement, ensuring that policies remain aligned with changes in the organisation’s size, service mix, staffing model, or regulatory environment.”

Client feedback also reveals that health and care businesses value the simplicity and transparency of working with an independent broker that acts exclusively in their interests. Rico said: “Care providers tell us they appreciate the clarity we bring to the process. They do not have time to contact multiple brokers or interpret competing quotes. They want someone who can undertake a full market exercise, present clear options and provide ongoing guidance throughout the year.

“These organisations are already under significant financial and operational pressure. Insurance should not add to that burden. Our role is to reduce complexity, ensure accuracy and give providers confidence that their risks are properly managed.”

As the care sector continues to evolve, TL Dallas anticipates sustained demand for independent insurance advice grounded in specialist sector knowledge – and firms that have an in-house claims team like TL Dallas are in demand. Rico concluded: “Our in-house claims team gives peace of mind that when something bad happens there is a real person on the end of the phone ready and waiting to help – not a call centre or online chat box!”

TL Dallas also works closely with other industry experts including solicitors, risk management professionals and Care Quality Commission (CQC) advisors to provide a wealth of knowledge and relevant guidance to clients.

TL Dallas has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of Mark Whiteley as head of trade credit.

Mark joins the Bradford-headquartered, family and employee-owned group following a strategic career spanning more than 30 years in the credit insurance and broking sector, including senior leadership roles at Xenia Broking.

Mark previously played a key role in shaping Xenia’s digital strategy and driving growth through enhanced business relationship management. His experience includes leading digital transformation programmes, developing industry partnerships and supporting clients across complex trading environments.

Commenting on his appointment, Mark said: “During the past 30 years, I have consistently looked at TL Dallas with the utmost respect due to the exceptional calibre of their team and the high standard of service delivered to clients.

“It’s an exciting time for TL Dallas, which has made several high-profile acquisitions in recent years and is now keen to invest in further developing its trade credit offering in today’s uncertain environment, which represents a highly compelling proposition.

“I would also like to extend my appreciation to Peter Hodgson, who has led the team for the past year, facilitating a smooth transition after Simon Hyde’s retirement. I am now looking forward to continuing to work with Peter, in his new strategic Group role, and the rest of the Board,.

“Looking ahead, I anticipate engaging with colleagues and clients across the trade credit industry, as well as supporting colleagues throughout the wider organisation. In addition, I look forward to collaborating with our stakeholders, especially insurers, who are already endorsing the investment in expanding this income stream.”

Group managing director, Polly Staveley, said: “Mark brings deep sector experience, a strong track record of digital innovation and a clear understanding of how trade credit solutions can support clients in volatile markets. His leadership will be central to the next phase of our investment in trade credit, building on the strong foundations laid by Simon Hyde and the momentum developed by Peter Hodgson, who I am pleased to say will continue with the business in a group board role.

“Demand for trade credit insurance continues to grow as businesses seek greater protection from insolvency risk, supply chain disruption and late payment. Mark’s insights and commercial expertise will help us expand our capabilities and deliver even greater value to clients across the UK.” TL Dallas has been providing trade credit insurance for more than 50 years and works with clients across the UK.

Bradford-headquartered insurance broker, TL Dallas, is enabling more young people to experience the excitement of live football through a new partnership it has helped create between the Bradford City FC Community Foundation and the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture team.

Building on TL Dallas’s long-standing 25-year partnership with Bradford City AFC, the collaboration will enable young people aged 16 to 25 to attend certain home games at a special discounted rate through the TL Dallas Community Stand. The offer is being delivered via the Bradford 2025 Youth Pass.

Mike Martin, Group Director at TL Dallas, said the company was proud to play a part in connecting the two organisations. “Our business has worked closely with both the Bradford 2025 team and the Bradford City FC Community Foundation, and by bringing them together, young people can now attend games at a special price using The TL Dallas Community Stand,” he explained. “By including football matches within the Bradford 2025 Youth Pass, young people aged 16–25 who might not have attended a game, or who might struggle to afford it, will now have the chance to enjoy the thrill of live football at Valley Parade for an unbeatable price – and accessible places are also available.”

Dan Bates, Executive Director at Bradford 2025, added: “We’re delighted that, through our partners TL Dallas, we’re able to offer Bradford 2025 Youth Pass members cheaper tickets to upcoming Bradford City AFC games. The TL Dallas team have been proud supporters of Bradford 2025, and in collaboration with the Bradford City FC Community Foundation, this is a fantastic way to create more opportunities for young people to engage with all Bradford has to offer.”

The Bradford 2025 Youth Pass is a free scheme designed to make the UK City of Culture celebrations as accessible as possible for young people across the district. Pass holders can enjoy discounted tickets to a wide range of cultural events, priority booking access, exclusive invitations to workshops and masterclasses, and opportunities to gain training and skills experience, alongside regular curated updates about what’s on across the district.

The next matches available through the initiative are Bradford City v Burton Albion and Bradford City v Exeter City and tickets can be purchased for just £4 via these links:

TL Dallas has appointed Caroline Pullich as Group Head of Private Clients, further strengthening the family firm’s expertise in delivering bespoke insurance and wealth protection services to high-net-worth individuals and families across the UK and Northern Ireland.

Caroline brings more than three decades of experience in financial services and insurance, having held senior roles at NatWest, Barclays, and NFU Mutual. She spent 21 years at NatWest, where she progressed through a variety of retail and corporate banking roles, ultimately leading teams of up to 750 colleagues. She then spent 10 years at Barclays, progressing to Head of SME for Yorkshire, working closely with entrepreneurs, family businesses, and regional organisations.

Most recently, Caroline was Managing Partner at NFU Mutual in Boston Spa, where she built a successful high-net-worth, bespoke insurance proposition. Over three years, she developed a portfolio of more than 80 private clients, providing tailored advice and support spanning both personal and commercial needs.

Commenting on her new role, Caroline said: “Throughout my career in banking and insurance, the importance of relationships has always stood out. At TL Dallas, I want to bring together everything I’ve learned to support clients with a truly personal, concierge-style service. I’ll also be building my own portfolio of clients, ensuring I’m closely connected to families and their future generations, who will be responsible for their personal and business assets in the years ahead. People want reassurance and an insurance broker that takes the time to really understand their individual needs, and that’s where TL Dallas excels and ultimately what attracted me to the role.”

Alongside her professional work, Caroline is an active contributor to the business and charitable communities. She is Chair of the Institute of Directors for North Yorkshire, a Board Member of Maggie’s Cancer Care Yorkshire, and sits on the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce’s Leeds Leadership Group.

Caroline added: “These roles have given me a broad network of connections who will also benefit TL Dallas clients. The firm has a strong reputation for its charitable commitments and client relationships and I’m excited to help grow the Private Clients division, expand our high-net-worth proposition, and build on the firm’s long-standing values of trust and service.”

Managing Director, Polly Staveley, said: “T L Dallas is committed to the philosophy that private clients continue to want a knowledgeable insurance professional looking after them, ensuring they have the best possible cover and value, and fighting for their interests during a claim. Caroline joining and leading our private client teams is a key part of our plan to take this gold standard service proposition to a wider audience throughout the UK.”
